Hey friends,

A special (and very short) issue this week.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the special women in our lives that raised us. Here are 3 mom/parenting-related quotes + definitions I’ve come across. I hope they send you down some useful rabbit holes. 🐇

1- The Good Mother Fails

💡
"The good mother necessarily fails." - Sigmund Freud

This one deserves a little context...

a mother's love never ceases or ends, but there comes a day in every mother's life where she must let go of her child if she wants them to grow. Like Mary in Michelangelo's Pieta, she has to sacrifice her child to the world so that they can become a realized & integrated adult. This requires a  courage and selflessness the magnitude of which only a mother can understand. It is both a burden and gift that only she can see through to fruition.

2- Mother's Cultivate Strength (This one is my favorite)

💡
"A mother is not a person to lean on, but a person to make leaning unnecessary." - Doroth Canfield Fisher
Aethra, in Greek mythology, daughter of King Pittheus of Troezen and mother of Theseus.

3- Love is More Than Praise

💡
"If from infancy you treat children as gods, they are liable in adulthood to act as devils." - P.D. James
Echidna, a monster, half-woman and half-snake, who lived alone in a cave. She was the mate of the fearsome monster Typhon and was the mother of many of the most famous monsters of Greek myth.
